Abstract

The application of insecticides on local product filter paper can be made in three ways: droplet use pipette, manual spray, and printing spray. Insecticides play an essential role in a paper, mainly used for testing susceptibility. The way the insecticide is applied affects the distribution on the paper surface. The purpose of calculating the distribution of insecticides on local filter paper is to determine the amount of insecticide in the cavity volume of ordinary paper. The research aims to get the data quality of impregnated paper local production with various spray techniques. To determine the volume of voids on paper and determine the distribution of insecticides can be using ImageJ software. The type of paper used is locally produced filter paper with insecticide lambda cyhalothrin with a predetermined concentration. The study results showed that with the spray machine method, the distribution of insecticides was more evenly distributed than the standard spray method. The range of paper cavity volumes with a spray machine is shorter than the volume range of paper cavities sprayed manually (0.005113), while those with ordinary sprays are (0.007349). Abstract

Background: Anopheles maculatus is one of the mosquito species that has been confirmed as a malaria vector in Indonesia. The potential of a mosquito as a vector is influenced by its behavior. Information on the distribution and behavior of An. maculatus needs to be carried out to determine the potential for malaria transmission transmitted by the species in an area. The study aimed to obtain information on the distribution, behavior, and potential of maculatus as a malaria vector in several provinces in Indonesia. Method: Mosquito collection was carried out using human-landing collection, animal-baited trap, cattle-bait, light-trap, and resting morning. A survey of mosquitoes was carried out in 29 provinces in Indonesia. Mosquitoes were identified for the species and detected the blood-sucking behavior with an Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and the presence of Plasmodium using a Polymerase Chain Reaction. Results: The results showed that An. maculatus was found in the Riau Islands, Lampung, Bangka Belitung, West Java, Central Java, East Java, and Central Sulawesi. Anopheles maculatus has known to suck the blood of humans and animals with a predominance of animals. Anopheles maculatus is also known to suck blood outdoors predominantly. In general, the activity of An. maculatus sucking blood begins around 18.00 in the evening. Central Java Province was the province with the highest density of An. maculatus mosquitoes, thereby increasing the potential for transmission of malaria cases. Conclusion: Anopheles maculatus was spread in Riau Islands, Lampung, Bangka Belitung, West Java, Central Java, East Java, and Central Sulawesi. This species was known to suck the blood of people and humans, and its blood-sucking activity starts around 18.00 in the evening. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Data of mosquito fauna is important to be known as basic effort in vector mosquito control. It is necessary to update the data from time to time. The effort of updating the mosquito fauna was started from South Sumatra Province. Amount of 2,784 mosquito specimens were examined. The result showed there are 62 species of mosquitoes from South Sumatra Province and they belong to 10 genera. One species of culicid mosquito were recorded for the first time from Indonesia, namely A edes (Downsiomyia) pexus and six other species were first recorded on Sumatra Island.
